đź’š WHO I AM
I’m Raina, founder of Dead Threads Fabric, aspiring crone, sustainability champion, sewist, feminist, reader, wanderer, mom, stepmom, cat mom, and Nonnie.
I believe no human is illegal. I am fiercely anti-racist and I proudly stand with the LGBTQ+ community. I’m a lover of honest conversations, crafternoons, caring for our Mother Earth, and living this messy, beautiful life out loud with no apologies.
Dead Threads is rooted in a vision I’ve held for years: a return to the quilting circle. A magical place where skills, stories, traditions, and supplies were shared while creating something beautiful and useful.
Through this shop, I hope to keep that circle going, to pass fabric and supplies from one maker to another, and make sewing more accessible, more sustainable, and more connected.
đź’š WHAT I OFFER
Dead Threads isn’t a thrift store. It’s a secondhand fabric boutique.
I stock a curated, ever-rotating selection of:
- Fabrics: Garment-friendly yardage in rayons, linens, cottons, silks, and the occasional sequin drama, alongside the ever-popular quilting cottons, both vintage and premium. Think vintage treasures, modern staples, and cuts that you can't wait to sew.
- Notions: Buttons, zippers, lace, ribbons, appliqués, bias tape, and all the finishing touches that take your sewing from basic to bespoke.
- Patterns: A thoughtful mix of new, vintage, and retro patterns that spark creativity and suit real bodies.
Beautiful, usable materials, priced to stay accessible, presented like they matter.
Because secondhand doesn’t mean second-rate.
🌍 WHY DEADTHREADS?
Like a lot of people, I returned to sewing in 2020, and, unsurprisingly, started accumulating fabric.
It didn’t take long to realize that my growing stash wasn’t much different from the fast fashion habits I’d long rejected. Same impulse shopping. Same overconsumption. As a lifelong thrifter and secondhand shopper, I started thinking about how to source fabric thoughtfully, sustainably, and affordably.
There are so many reasons to choose secondhand fabric. Here are just a few:
- We are in a climate crisis.
- The textile industry exploits both people and planet.
- There’s already an overwhelming amount of fabric in circulation.
- Sewing should be accessible for everyone, not just for those who can afford to buy new.
Dead Threads is bridging the gap:
Connecting overflowing stashes and studio castoffs with makers who can use them.
Keeping beautiful materials in circulation and out of landfills.
Proving that sustainable sewing can be stylish, affordable, and rooted in community.
But let’s be clear, this isn’t just about keeping scraps out of the trash.
The damage starts long before that.
With industrial cotton farming. With fossil-fueled synthetics.
With underpaid workers and unchecked overproduction.
The textile industry is exploitative by design.
Dead Threads is a quiet rebellion.
We intercept that cycle.
We shift power back to the makers, the re-users, the ones who see beauty in what already exists.Because the most sustainable fabric is the one that’s already here.
Thanks for being here, and for giving second life to secondhand fabric.
